Launching a meaningful career as an Employment Consultant at APM

By Marie Holloway

Our Employment Services team at APM is very diverse. We’re a mix of talent acquisition experts from all different backgrounds and industries, and we work very well together. We’re a motivated and curious team who focuses on collaboration and sharing our experiences and knowledge, and I think the fact that we value each individual’s strengths and ideas is a big part of our success.

My role at APM is to attract great talent. I work closely with my hiring managers to better understand their business and goals, and the type of people who will help them achieve them. This is one of my favourite parts of my job - continually engaging with my hiring managers to offer support, training, and methodologies for recruitment, so they too become confident in this field.

Being an APM Employment Consultant

Being an Employment Consultant is all about delivering the best service possible to both clients and employers. At APM, we believe in our brand, our purpose, and the value we bring to our clients, as well as the greater communities in which we work.

Internal mobility is important to us as we evolve as an organisation, and our people are truly important to us too. I genuinely feel we offer our employees a sense of purpose that differentiates us from other similar organisations.

We provide full training for our hires and help them pivot their existing skills as well. We are always developing and educating our people in areas like communication, customer service, leadership, negotiation, networking, collaboration, and time management. Our employees can also do a number of accredited courses and traineeships, covering many disciplines.

Who we look for

Being an Employment Consultant requires empathy, motivation, strong customer service, resilience, and communication skills. To be successful in helping clients find suitable and sustainable work, you need to be engaged, strategic, proactive, and consistent.

At APM, we look for people from industries such as retail, banking, hospitality, travel, and community services. Above all, though, we want people that demonstrate resilience, tenacity, problem-solving, drive and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.

Career growth with APM

My own experience at APM has been one of constant professional development. While here, I’ve been fortunate enough to utilise my practical skills to complete my Diploma in Human Resource Management and Leadership. I have also been involved with the growth of our Employment Services team, training our Business Managers, and working with our Regional Managers to identify gaps and improve our candidate experience and recruitment processes.

I am also very fortunate to be able to work from home when I want to - flexible working arrangements are just one benefit at APM. While Employment Consultants generally do Monday to Friday, depending on requirements, there can be room for flexibility in that role.

But there are also so many other reasons I can think of to recommend choosing APM to build your career with. The Employment Consultant role offers so many different pathways within the employment services industry and other brands or disciplines under the APM umbrella. It also offers a range of transferable skills for future roles or progression.

I can confidently say that I learn something new every day here, and I believe that’s the case for everyone.
