Alexis Shackleton, IT Business Analyst

Hi Alexis, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

I am currently working on streamlining our communications with automations along the development pathway: it’s easier on the developers, but also creates improved communication for stronger stakeholder relationships.

I also recently worked on a government audit of IT Data Security, which was intensive, but very rewarding.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

After working in banking and wealth management companies, the opportunity to work for an organisation whose main focus is human services, and who really put their people first, was too good to pass up.

APM is also going through massive growth and constantly evolving, so I was very happy to have a position I knew wouldn't get stale and would keep me on my toes.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

I’m an IT Business Analyst for APM’s corporate division. I meet regularly with stakeholders from all the Business Units (BU) we support across Australia and New Zealand.

Each BU has its own systems, goals, service provision and requirements. Getting to flex my creativity and context switching capabilities to achieve results keeps things exciting and you constantly learn as the company expands.

Beyond stakeholder engagement, we’re a tight-knit team who love working and learning together. My manager empowers me to think outside the box and remain untempered by my change mindset, by giving me the space to consider how I can improve my team’s functionality.

I will always love working in the Project space, but I prefer the solidity and growth over time you get with BAU – it’s perfect as I am able to contribute to both.

Lolani Mwenda, IT Business Analyst

Hi Lolani, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

I've had the chance to capture the requirements and be part of the design of a potential global implementation that would streamline any schedule-related business area in APM. I'm thrilled to have that sort of impact by improving the delivery of services to people who need it, while at the same time improving business processes.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

I was interested in working for a company that helps people, as this a big thing for me. Also, I was looking at furthering my work experience in a big organisation like APM.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

As a Business Analyst, I get to interact with a number of people across APM. Working in my role at APM has been interesting as I get to work with a variety of stakeholders and business areas, not only in Australia but across the world.

It's cool to be able to work across different countries and learn about the differences between teams and business areas.

Marcelo Vollbrecht, IT Data Architect

Hi Marcelo, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

APM is always growing. The variety of work challenges us all the time. This drives the opportunity to always innovate and look for better integrations to reduce manual processes and tools for data analysis to facilitate our front-end colleagues.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

Funnily enough, I was ringing an ex-manager for an employment reference; I had no idea that he was working for APM. Coincidently, he was hiring for a Data Architect position. He explained the work APM does, and the opportunities to grow. It was hard to say no to an interview and thankfully here I am.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

Since joining APM, I have been afforded the opportunity to become part of the Corporate Information and Apps Leadership team. Guidance and support were provided along the pathway and now I am a very proud Data Team Leader.

Fulfilling my career goals and being a part of a team that learns and grows together is a rarity. Team symbiosis and dynamic individual growth is embraced at APM.

Dawid Karszniewicz, IT Technical Lead

Hi Dawid, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

No two days are the same at APM and it’s great working in such a dynamic environment. We support multiple business units with the software we develop, and we are always challenged with something new - projects, system enhancements, completing critical patches.

One of the largest projects I worked on was migrating APM’s on-premises to cloud-based systems, which demonstrated everyone's flexibility, commitment, and willingness to achieve the best result for the end-users.

Though sometimes we work under time pressures, the team’s exceptional resilience and bond shines through, maintaining a level-headed approach that exceeds any other team I have worked with.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

Initially it was the company’s highly-esteemed reputation, then feeling immediately comfortable and part of the team when interviewed. That culture has continued from my very first day in the office.

My team is incredible and their talents make working with them a pleasure. Along with the guidance and support we receive from our manager, we are able to achieve remarkable outcomes on a wide range of projects, technologies and operational systems.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

As ‘IT Technical Lead’ of the ‘Corporate Information and Applications’ department, I lead a team of developers with diverse backgrounds and skills.

After developing my skills (including leadership) in my previous Senior Software Developer position, I grew into my current role, which is different because it involves a practical focus on our goals and outcomes, rather than managing my team’s billable hours.

I enjoy identifying and constantly evaluating their strengths. I believe this facilitates individuals in discovering their passions and drivers, which ultimately leads to both individual and collective team success, with scope for innovation too.

Jonathan Foster, IT Service Delivery Manager

Hi Jonathan, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

IT supports each department so we get a lot of variety naturally.

I'm working on our asset management so we can always make sure our staff are using the best equipment.

I’m also responsible for maintaining the APMAssist portal (our online IT helpdesk) so APM employees can get rapid response on their queries.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

I actually joined APM on a four-week contract in 2014. I didn’t know much about them then, but nearly eight years and a couple of promotions later, I'm still here!

My passion for this company is huge. I am very proud to tell people where I work and frequently point out APM offices to whomever I’m with. I believe in the good that the company brings. We are doing amazing work that improves thousands of peoples' lives on a daily basis.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

APM offers such a variety of services compared to previous organisations I’ve worked for; it’s exciting to see how different units operate in their own speciality and the new ways we are able to help people improve their lives.

Whilst I’m always regulation-adherent, my role really allows me to be creative in exploring what IT can bring to the business. Also, I communicate with people from all corners of APM's geographically diverse footprint, about anything from printers, to mobile apps, to internet connections and more. It really does provide a hugely diverse breadth of knowledge.

Maria Castillo, IT Application Support Manager

Hi Maria, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

I am currently part of the migration of APM’s case management system into one platform. The project involves a substantial amount of hard work, but despite this, the level of teamwork and communication within the development team at APM makes it a satisfying experience. We aim to deliver a seamless transition and an efficient operation experience to our customers.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

The IT department at APM is a high-performing, agile and collaborative team. The nature of the relationships between all the team members is very positive, invoking the ideal family dynamic that is healthy and supportive.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

In my current position as IT Application Support Manager, one of my responsibilities is to provide technical support to teams within APM, as well as external clients when required.

I have always enjoyed the satisfaction of helping people. Over the many years that I have been with the company, I have honed my communication and technical skills in a way that enables me to collaborate very effectively with internal and external clients, and answer questions appropriately.

Stacey Herbert, IT Service Desk Engineer

Hi Stacey, tell us about some of the exciting and varied work you are doing at APM.

The Service Desk is currently working alongside our Projects team to migrate APM office landlines to Microsoft Teams calling.

This has been an exciting project for everyone involved – it takes a lot of pressure off of staff working in our client-facing offices as they are able to tend to calls from the comfort of their own desks. This is just one of many projects IT are collaborating on to improve the end user experience.

What drew you to the IT department at APM?

What drew me to APM was their commitment to supporting the community. As someone who has taken part in volunteer work in the past, giving back is extremely important to me and I’m proud to work for a company that helps people.

Additionally, it is inspiring to work alongside a management team that encourages personal and professional growth. During my time here, I have seen many of my peers progress within the IT department and move onto new and exciting roles. It is encouraging to work for a company that supports and nurtures my career goals.

What makes your current role stand out amongst other IT jobs you’ve had before?

As an IT Service Desk Technician, my job entails being a first point of contact for APM staff and contractors who require technical assistance.

Taking on this role was a huge 180 for me as I had come from a customer service background. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience – I’ve been given the opportunity to expand my technical knowledge, all the while continuing to utilise my customer service skills to ensure a positive experience for our staff.
