The role:
This is an exciting and rare opportunity. Working as an ADF Backfill Rehabilitation Consultant, you will become a subject matter expert on all things Defence! You will support our existing team of Rehabilitation Consultants by providing cover for annual leave, sick leave and periods of vacancy to ensure continued care for our ADF Members. It’s a fast paced and dynamic role!
Working across a number of ADF bases in the Southern Queensland region you will enjoy diversity and the unique work setting that every Defence Force base has to offer. You’ll have the opportunity to work at heritage listed Defence sites, rich in history boasting original structures dated from pre-world War Two. Immerse in the thrill of fighter jets at RAAF Base Amberley or Gallipoli Barracks (Enoggera) proudly one of Australia's largest military bases and the headquarters of the 7th Brigade. On the odd occasion you work at Kokoda Barracks, you’ll enjoy picturesque natural surrounds. Established for Army jungle warfare and infantry training, Kokoda Barracks is nestled amongst the upper Coomera River Valley.
Whichever base you’re working on, you can be sure that your role is truly meaningful and purposeful. Supporting our ADF members to return to a deployable status after injury or illness to defend and protect Australia:
Apply your clinical reasoning skills to support ADF members who have sustained a physical and/or psychological injury.
Conduct clinical assessments to determine member and ADF Unit needs including consultation with key stakeholders to determine the most appropriate rehabilitation direction for the member.
Apply the return-to-work hierarchy to rehabilitation planning with a focus on supporting members to return to their pre-injury / deployable status where clinically indicated before considering medical transition
Develop plans to guide and implement rehabilitation plans/programs in collaboration with relevant parties.
Seek endorsement, implement progressive work upgrades, and monitor rehabilitation progress to achieve agreed rehabilitation goals
Engages in craft specific single assessments and ongoing services, such as: Vocational Assessments, ADL Assessments, FCE Assessment and Ergonomic Assessments.
Provide quality insights / training opportunities as a result of varied caseload exposure
Support upskilling, supervising and onboarding new and existing ADF consultants across the region
Work with Team Managers on quality activities for on-base and off-base consultants.
KPI’s based on service delivery outcomes, NOT billable hours. Genuine person-centred focus and goal setting. This role will expose you to high level stakeholder engagement fast-tracking your career development pathways.

What will make you successful:
Current unrestricted registration or membership with the relevant industry body (AHPRA, ESSA, ASORC/RCAA or AASW)
Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counselling, Nursing, Osteopathy or Social Work
Strong clinical reasoning & passion to help people rehabilitate
Ability to work the hours 07:30 – 15:30 across various ADF bases (mainly located in Brisbane, Ipswich and occasionally in the Gold Coast)
Flexibility to travel across the SQLD Defence sites at short notice.
Ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams to support the achievement of a common goal
12 months occupational rehabilitation experience
