I joined APM Workcare in 2018. It was all about the signs. My SEEK alerts would keep displaying the State Manager vacancy on my emails – almost daily, like a beacon! It felt as though I had to pay attention to the opportunity because it was the right time. Though I was in private psychological practice, I was missing leading a team – one of my passions!

After many weeks of this beacon, flashing its lights at me, I did some research. I discovered that APM had become more than just a vocational rehabilitation service in recent years, and I thought how wonderful it would be to be part of a company that’s so dynamic and global! I haven’t looked back since.

APM’s incredible company culture

APM has a long history in the Vocational Rehabilitation industry in WA. In my previous roles outside of APM, APM was seen as a top-notch provider and a worthy competitor in vocational rehabilitation services. So, I was no novice to the business. It was the type of pedigree you would like to associate with.

What you can’t perceive properly until you join is how great its culture is. Throughout the entire organisation you’ll encounter a high level of trust, respect, engagement and just as importantly, fun! It’s also genuinely flexible and very supportive. Team members support one another and work together to achieve team goals.

During the COVID-19 pandemic this was really evident. The company showed its authenticity in its care for its employees by making policies and procedures clear, communicating safety protocols quickly and offering support from the beginning of the pandemic that eased stress over how our work would be impacted.

Professional development is a continuous cycle here

APM are at the forefront of professional development. We’re given tailored professional development programs that support our profession and skill requirements. It’s a constant learning cycle while you’re here. I’ve been a psychologist for 30 years, but there’s always something new to learn and keep developing myself with. Furthermore, when you first join, you can have full confidence that the induction period will ensure you have all the training you need.

Professionally speaking, career options here are huge! APM WorkCare is part of the APM Group, which means you can have global opportunities at your fingertips, in a variety of businesses across differing services. It’s like a lolly shop of opportunities.

The best work/life balance I’ve ever had

With all that said, I’d have to say that my favourite part of all about working here is the authentic work/life balance we can have. There is true flexibility in the way you structure your working hours, which means you can manage your work in the most efficient way possible for the business and your lifestyle. I am an early riser and being able to start my day early and finish early to exercise and be with family is absolutely fundamental to my happiness.
