Helping veterans build meaningful lives
Leaving the military can be difficult time and Konekt Workcare is proud to support Australia’s ex-service men and women with their return to civilian life.
Konekt provides rehabilitation and workplace health solutions all over Australia. Clients come from a variety of industries and circumstances, including our defence forces.
Support after service
Terri Miller joined Konekt’s team in Darwin almost three years ago and finds her work supporting ex-service men and women at Konekt extremely rewarding.
“I enjoy the challenge of walking beside a veteran and helping them find new meaningful employment or training. My favourite part of my job is helping them realise how much they have to offer in a civilian world.”
It’s a team effort, and as well as working closely with the individual client, Konekt collaborates with Open Arms, Mates4Mates, local GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, other healthcare professionals and any relevant community organisations and businesses.
“This helps ensure we’re continually improving our level of support and providing the best service to our clients.”
Konekt consultants are compassionate and caring towards their clients, especially when the journey is not always straightforward.
“Admittedly, I sometimes feel sad and helpless when clients go through particularly tough situations. However, my role is to be a guide and a support, so I have to remain calm and in control when they report unfortunate news to me.”
In times like these, Terri is appreciative of the support from her own team, which is a hallmark of Konekt’s culture. New graduates are well supported by a mentor and given many opportunities to integrate their learning into practice, with in-house training across all the services Konekt offers. The company also encourages and supports ongoing professional development activities for all employees.
Building a career with Konekt
Terri’s first role was as a Rehabilitation Consultant, and by demonstrating leadership and passion in her work with veterans, she was promoted to Senior Consultant. More recently, she took on additional responsibilities as a Managing Consultant and plays an important role in supporting new staff, particularly occupational therapists, and providing student supervision.
“Overall, experience so far with Konekt has been so positive and I’m looking forward to helping many more veterans in my role.”
