A world of career opportunities for allied health professionals
Micaella Gogoski’s career with APM offers great insight into the opportunities that being part of a growing and diverse company can offer.
Following an undergraduate psychology degree, Micaella moved into the corporate world spending almost seven years at Westfield in people leadership positions. She also facilitated learning and development training to drive efficient and successful teams.
When Micaella felt the pull of her original calling to be a psychologist, she commenced a Masters in Psychotherapy and started working as a Student Mentor at the MCI Institute, an award-winning and industry-leading training provider, prior to its acquisition by APM.
Student Mentors are available to everyone studying through MCI, including those paying privately to complete a course and those studying to receive a Federal Government Job Seeker payment. Mentors play an important role in helping students keep their studies on track, and often provide emotional and therapeutic support.
APM leaders support career growth
At MCI, Micaella helped to build the team from four to 20 Student Mentors and position it for future success as she completed her Masters and sought a position in her chosen field.
Her leaders at MCI, which had now integrated into APM, recognised that opportunities for career mobility and progression existed within the Group, and facilitated meetings for Micaella with senior leaders in APM’s expanding Health portfolio.
This led to a role in Assure’s Immediate Response Team, which provides rapid support to clients in times of need. Assure is part of the APM Group and a leading Employee Assistance Program provider delivering coaching, counselling and wellbeing services to Australian companies.
“APM understands the bigger picture. Leaders know that our skills may be put to good use in another part of the business and they’re supportive of people progressing their career in a way that’s best for them.”
Flexibility to pursue your passion
Micaella is grateful that she is supported to now share her time between her role at Assure and in private practice, specialising in trauma.
“It’s the perfect combination – I get my clinical fix with private clients, but I also really enjoy being part of an organisation and a team that’s doing great things.”
She also facilitates wellbeing workshops at APM and played an important role in Assure’s Wellbeing Gateway, an app for clients to access tools and resources that support their wellbeing journey.
Micaella is aware she can have a huge impact on the clients she’s working with.
“Working closely with people in a deeply emotional way, often over a long period, you start to notice their strengthened sense of self. They move towards more positive coping mechanisms, make better decisions, and find their voice.
To be part of this is very powerful. That’s the reward. That’s why I do what I do.”
