Valuing our people at all ages and stages of life

APM is proud to be a flexible and inclusive employer and values the experience that all our people bring to create a diverse workforce where everyone can feel a sense of ownership and belonging.

We understand the importance of working with people from all ages and stages of life, and we’re proud that 6% of our workforce is aged over 60 in Australia and New Zealand, and over 8% globally.

We’d like to introduce to you to three of our APM Assessment Services assessors, all who have had varied and interesting careers, and bring valuable experience to our team responsible for conducting assessments with older Australians to access support to continue living independently at home, or in aged care.

Experience leads to valuable, and sought after, knowledge
Helen - Clinical Advisor and Assessor, Residential Aged Care, Sydney NSW

“I started work in aged care as a trainer and assessor, and loved the field so much that I haven’t left it!

I have, however, moved about within the sector and worked in multiple roles across different organisations over the past 20 years, including as a Registered Nurse, community nurse in palliative care, care manager, residential manager, and quality and compliance manager.

Working with APM Assessment Services allows me to use my years of aged care experience, sharing my knowledge and utilising my skills.

I feel I’m a valued employee and an integral part of the team, with my opinions sought after and respected.

I’m thrilled that I’ve discovered an area in aged care that’s new and suits me and my lifestyle. I hope to be working for APM for years to come!

I love seeing the diversity of the team, being led by passionate leaders and knowing that I work for a respected company.”

Meaningful connections bring a sense of achievement
Eileen - Assessor, Residential Aged Care, Cairns and FNQ, QLD

“I’m a hospital-trained Registered Nurse, completing my degree at a later stage. Throughout my career, I worked closely with older Australians giving me a good understanding of the needs of the sector and helping me to bring a breadth of experience to my role at APM.

APM’s purpose is to enable better lives, and I really do feel a sense of achievement knowing that the assessments I’m part of will help to support the quality of life of aged care residents.

I love it when I arrive at a residence and I’m greeted with ‘Welcome back Eileen, we missed you!’ That truly makes my day.

Making connections with the staff is so important in achieving positive outcomes for the residents, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with so many caring and dedicated people.

My advice is to approach a role in aged care with a flexible and adaptable mindset. It’s extremely rewarding, but does have its’ challenges, so be willing to learn new ways of working and build trust – that’s key to success and a sense of achievement in our sector.”

The pathway for growth continues
Kate de Souza - APM Assessment Services, Learning & Development Co-ordinator, Armidale, NSW

“I started my APM journey as an assessor, doing some extra training along the way, and then moved into a Clinical Advisor role.

I’m now the Learning and Development Co-ordinator, training and upskilling our assessors, which assists APM to better enable its already wonderful workforce.

I still work as an assessor at times, and I love that I can connect with clients on a level that I didn’t always have the opportunity to earlier in my career in management and leadership roles. When I’m out assessing, I can have a nice chat with the residents in the aged care facilities, and when I present education sessions, I love getting to know our assessors.

At APM, I recommend that you put your hand up for any role or task you’re interested in - you never know where it might lead. I’ve found that senior leaders take note of your needs and by speaking up, you could find new opportunities to help you grow and develop.”
