APM offers career pathways that make a big difference
Being part of APM means making a difference. It means a commitment to enabling better lives for the people we work with and in the communities where we work. It also means that APM is committed to you and helping you find your moment to shine.
Eleni Goimil has built her career as a mature-age student with the support and guidance of APM. Her first involvement with APM was through a university placement for her double degree in counselling and psychology. She worked on the Personal Helpers And Mentors program (PHaMS), a contract APM held with the Federal Government to provide mental health supports and services.
Following her placement, Eleni accepted a role with PHAMS until the program closed and she became a Local Area Coordinator for APM Communities in Joondalup, where she helped NDIS participants to understand and implement their plans and supports.
“Working with NDIS participants and helping them to lead a happy and improved quality of life gave me the opportunity to learn more about a segment of society that is often overlooked, even in the field of psychology.
It was a chance to build my rapport skills and better understand people’s differences.”
Pathway to the future
Eleni completed her degrees and became a provisional psychologist. She joined the Provisional Pathways program that leads to becoming a registered psychologist following four years study and a two-year paid internship.
With support from her APM leaders, Eleni moved into a role at Assure, part of the APM Group, which is a leading Employee Assistance Program provider delivering coaching, counselling and wellbeing services to companies across Australia.
“As a clinician and provisional psychologist at Assure, I work with clients on a range of issues. After these past few years, we’re spending a lot of time on building resilience and offering solution-based advice to help people overcome and deal with challenges.”
Ongoing support and guidance
Eleni is grateful for continued support from APM and Assure to achieve her goal of becoming a registered psychologist. To foster her ongoing growth, she has a mentor within the business and is part of a peer group support program.
As part of the Provisional Pathways program, she also has an external supervisor that APM sourced and funds.
“APM has supported me every step of the way. They give me the flexibility I need to see my supervisor and I feel like I’m learning so much more through on-the-job training that I otherwise might have.
APM is delivering what they promised and I’ve found it to be an amazingly supportive environment, especially as a mature-age graduate.”
