Working full or part time, based out of one of the following sites in Success, Armadale, Mandurah, Joondalup, WA and supporting projects across WA, QLD and NT, you will engage people with disability, families, local governments, community groups, mainstream agencies, and businesses. Aligned with the Australian Disability Strategy, you will work in collaboration with people with disability to identify and overcome barriers to access and inclusion through community-based project work. You will improve the community’s knowledge of the NDIS and Disability and work alongside different stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions to the barriers identified by people with disability.
As the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Community Specialist, you will be responsible for:
Engaging and building relationships with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) communities, leaders, local stakeholder organisations, people with disability and families to facilitate culturally responsive engagement with and increase their capacity and understanding of the NDIS.
Leading, developing and implementing local projects in collaboration with community stakeholders through a project management approach
Ensuring sustainability of projects through relationship building and capacity building of the community
Facilitating activities to contribute to the NDIS Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Strategy including the usage of culturally responsive disability resources
Fostering a culturally safe environment for open dialogue, knowledge sharing, and capacity building.
To be successful in this role…
Having knowledge of the local community and of the available options (and barriers) for social and economic participation for people with disability, will see you build and nurture relationships within the community to achieve sustainable solutions.
You will have:
Demonstrated relevant experience and or lived experience with people with disability and or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD), First Nations or LGBTQIA+ Communities
The experience to assist people with disability to identify and achieve the positive outcomes and community links they desire.
The commitment and ability to work with local stakeholders to undertake community projects
Knowledge of the Australian Disability Strategy.
Knowledge of the NDIS Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Strategy.
Knowledge of project management frameworks that support the delivery of sustainable community capacity building outcomes.
The ability (or interest) to give virtual and group presentations
Demonstrated computer skills including capability with Microsoft Office 365
Access to your own transport
