Opening doors to endless opportunity

You could almost say that Ashlyn Dyer knows APM like the back of her hand! First joining us in 2006, Ash has built an extraordinary career pathway and explored almost every aspect of the APM Group.

Let’s meet Ash and hear her story!

Tell us a bit about you and your career so far…
“I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Science (Anatomy and Physiology) and a Masters of Occupational Therapy Studies. I knew my passion lay in occupational rehabilitation and started at APM in early 2006 as a graduate Occupational Therapist, first working on the work capacity assessment contract in the employment services sector, while also working in our injury management team which is now APM WorkCare.

I had the opportunity to grow into more senior roles, managing teams and coordinating services. From 2009, my focus became purely on injury prevention and management, taking on regional and then various state manager roles.

When it was time for a change and I moved into an Integration Operations Manager role assisting newly acquired brands understand APM Group’s operational structure. From there, I moved into a role supporting Early Start Australia – a recently acquired brand - to set up a centralised intake team; then headed to APM’s Health portfolio as National Operational Excellence Manager working on multiple projects. I also chaired the first Health Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan.

And, finally, earlier this year, I moved into a General Manager position focused on Early Careers to build our student placement and graduate program offering across Health, along with strengthening partnerships with universities.”

How has APM supported your career journey?
“APM has supported me in so many ways. Firstly, APM’s growth and diversity, and taking on new opportunities as a business, has resulted in my own growth as a clinician.  Secondly, APM has the best people. I have formed life-long friendships and been supported by wonderful leaders at every stage of my career. Finally, APM has encouraged me to learn and grow, and supported me through professional development internally (e.g. the Harvard Leadership partnership and a Diploma in Leadership and Development through MCI), as well as expanding my knowledge through conferences, and specific OT and leadership courses.”

What do you enjoy about working at APM and your role?
“I love APM’s purpose of Enabling Better Lives. We do this externally with our clients, as well as internally with the growth of our people. That’s what I love about my current role. I get to work with a wonderful team that support students and new grads to ensure they have the best start to their career, and set them on a pathway throughout APM.”

What can you do at APM that you couldn’t do anywhere else?
“At APM, I’ve had a very diverse career, where I have been able to move between brands, contracts, use different skills and meet amazing people along the way. I’ve always been encouraged to lean into my strengths and my passion for learning, which has enabled me to perform at my best in all roles.”

One sentence to describe working at APM?
“Amazing purpose, great people, nowhere else I would rather be.”

What’s your advice for those interested in joining APM?
“Do it! The opportunities are endless. The people are fabulous. Take every opportunity in both hands and run with it - this will open many more doors.”

Do you have any hidden talents that we can share?
“I ride a blind horse called Wintara Cadence (we’re pictured competing below). You can find her on Facebook at Wintara Cadence.”
