From building careers to raising a baby, Heather finds the balance.

Heather is an occupational therapist, working as an area manager at Konekt in Melbourne. She began with Konekt in 2017 at our Brisbane office, but when she wanted a change in her lifestyle, she was able to make an internal transfer.

It’s the opportunities for career growth, support and mentorship that Heather really loves.

When I first started, I had a really good induction, which really set me up with a good base. I had a lot of shadowing opportunities working with the consultants… And having some really supportive managers that have supported that career development and pushed me to get out of my comfort zone to help push me to that next level.”

And then there were the growth opportunities that opened up when Konekt joined the APM Group.

Lots of professional development opportunities when we’ve come into the wider APM group has been really great, which has helped me not only directly in my role, but also just as an OT in general.”

What’s just as important for Heather is the culture and the people she works with, and what this means for her clients.

“Working here, I have a lot of fun. I’ve built some great friendships. There’s always stresses in your role, but I think that’s the good thing that we’ve got here in our Victorian TAS region - a team that works together and makes the days easier, and we can work through those stressful times together. What I love is that we work really well to get outcomes for our clients.”

Now, as a new parent, balancing work and raising a baby has become even more important – something the flexibility at Konekt lets her do.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have great bosses who have allowed me to have some really great work-life balance. I have a one-year-old now. I’ve been able to sort of take a lot of time off here and there, where I need to support my family. And I felt really, really supported through it all, which has been great to have that flexibility. I think that comes with the larger organisation that can offer that.”

Heather understands the significance of opportunities for growth and development, as well as the importance of a positive culture, and she’s committed to ensuring others enjoy these benefits to kick-start and continue a great career like hers.

“I think what I find rewarding about my role is just seeing how my employees progress in their careers and really helping them achieve their goals, and also seeing the positive change that we have on the people we work with in the community.”
