A rewarding career on a pathway to personal growth

Areej Alam has enjoyed a diverse and rewarding career since joining APM, being enabled to develop her transferrable skills and experience while adapting and growing within the business.  We recently spoke to Areej about her APM career pathway – here’s what she had to say!

Let’s hear a bit about you and career so far…
“I am very career driven! I began my career in retail while studying. After I graduated, I got my start in the IT sector where I worked for about 2.5 years as Tech Support, then later moved into the procurement department.

Following that, I joined APM as an Activity & Engagement Coordinator where I focused on creating meaningful programs and initiatives for people seeking to improve their lives through education and sustainable employment. When opportunity knocked, I was excited to move into my current role as a Risk & Compliance Officer where I ensure regulatory adherence and operational integrity.”

How has APM supported your career? 
“My journey at APM has been both diverse and rewarding, and has provided me with opportunities to build on my skills and take on new challenges. In my first role, I was enabled to develop strong coordination, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills while making a meaningful impact. Wanting to expand my expertise, my transferrable skills helped me to transition into a new role within the business. 

Continuous learning opportunities and encouragement from my team have empowered me to take on new responsibilities with confidence, shaping me into a more adaptable and knowledgeable professional. My time at APM has given me valuable experience across different areas, strengthening my ability to adapt and grow within the company. I can definitely see a long-term career pathway here.”

What do you enjoy about working at APM and your role? 
“I enjoy the supportive and collaborative environment at APM. The dynamic nature of the work keeps me engaged, as there are always new challenges to tackle and opportunities to enhance my skills. In my current role, I appreciate the responsibility of ensuring regulatory standards are met and contributing to the organisation’s integrity. I find it rewarding to work on identifying and mitigating risks as it allows me to make a meaningful impact while continuously expanding my knowledge and problem-solving skills.”

What can you do at APM (personally or professionally) that you couldn’t do anywhere else?
“APM has given me the chance to transition between different roles, allowing me to broaden my skill set and gain diverse experience. Professionally, I have been able to take on meaningful responsibilities that challenge me and contribute to the company’s success. Personally, the supportive work environment and culture have helped me build confidence, adaptability and a stronger sense of purpose in my career. The combination of career development opportunities and the ability to take on new challenges makes APM a unique place to grow and succeed.”

Do you have any advice for those interested in joining APM?

Last, but not least, do you have any hidden talents that we can share!
“Well it may not be a hidden talent as such, but I've been told that working with a team of diverse personalities using a positive approach is one of my special skills. This can be quite challenging, but the experience has taught me to turn differences into strengths. By understanding each team member in their unique way and adapting my communication style to suit their perspectives, it has not only created a more comfortable and productive environment but also helped me build strong professional relationships.”
