Software Development Manager

Our agile based development team is responsible for the delivery of cloud-based business solutions to meet the growing needs of the Employment Services division of Advanced Personnel Management (APM).

The role is hybrid based, with three days working in the South Geelong office and two days remote.

Day in the life…

  • Leadership & Management: Lead and manage a collaborative Agile team to develop, test, maintain, and deploy quality custom-built software solutions. The team includes domain leads (DevSecOps, Application Delivery, and Testing) and software developers (Senior Developers, Web Developers, and Application Support Developers).
  • Team Development: Conduct 1-on-1s with direct reports, provide guidance to reporting line managers, and foster a positive and engaging work environment where team members feel valued, motivated, and develop professionally.
  • Process Improvement: Champion development practices that foster ownership, growth, and collaboration. Seek opportunities to improve processes and technology, and keep an eye on future trends, including evolving a technical product roadmap.
  • Resource Planning: Collaborate with the GM of Product, Product Manager, and Business Analysts to ensure projects and features are resourced effectively.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with other business units and stakeholders.
  • Agile Practices: Plan, organise, and oversee Sprint ceremonies, ensuring timely and efficient completion of BAU tasks, bugs, and ad-hoc requests. Conduct and manage standups, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Platform Management: Ensure the core SaaS Azure-based platform is highly available, reliable, performant, and secure. Ensure the complementary suite of applications the team develops and supports follows similar standards.
  • Problem Solving: Proactively identify, investigate, and resolve complex problems, running point as needed and coordinating the right people to lead the resolution of issues. Conduct Post Incident reviews as required.
  • Release Management: Oversee the successful release and testing of product features.

 

We welcome candidates with …

  • Proven experience as a Software Development Manager, Engineering Manager, or similar role.
  • Experience delivering software development solutions at enterprise scale on cloud-based technology (Azure desirable).
  • Strong experience with Agile delivery methods (SCRUM, SAFe, Kanban) and leading technical delivery, including facilitating agile ceremonies and fostering an agile culture.
  • Experience developing technical roadmaps that support a product-driven roadmap.
  • Deep understanding of release processes, change management, and environment coordination.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong commitment to promoting a security-first culture and understanding information and data security protocols.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of API design, DevOps tools and practices, and Quality Assurance practices.
  • Experience with Angular, .NET, and MSSQL or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with data-rich software applications and 3rd party integrations.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian suite of software and Microsoft DevOps (desirable).
