Aidan went from running triathlons to running Lifecare in Victoria.
Like many sporty Aussie kids, Aidan dreamt of one day becoming an elite athlete. He might not have achieved that specific goal, but career wise, he has worked and travelled with international athletes at the highest levels — and his career has taken leaps and bounds.
Today, Aidan is the State Manager for Lifecare Victoria. He started as a physio in 2007 but quickly found the support he needed to grow his career within APM.
“I was very well supported by the senior physiotherapists, as well as some of the Sport and Exercise Medicine Physicians I was working with, and I had some great career planning. I was getting some guidance on how to grow my career towards my goals.”
APM is led by health professionals who appreciate the importance of providing opportunities and guidance, by creating a culture that prioritises personal and professional growth.
“Having a leadership team with a health background is really helpful, they can relate to physiotherapists and other clinicians who are working in the clinics.”
Aidan also sees the advantages of working with other disciplines — another benefit of being with an organisation as large as APM.
“One of the reasons I came to Lifecare was because they had a true multidisciplinary team within the same clinic. We've got physiotherapists, sports physiotherapists, Pilates instructors, podiatrists, Sport and Exercise Medicine physicians and dietitians. It's a great learning environment. I really like the multidisciplinary collaborative environment in the clinics.”
Aidan can see the value for new graduate students at Lifecare too, as they have ample opportunities to explore other disciplines and learn from mentors.
“There are fantastic opportunities for new graduate physiotherapist. They're not locked in a room by themselves, and they've got the opportunity to spend time with senior physiotherapists, people from other disciplines. And they can jump straight into other research opportunities or be involved peripherally in research projects.”
Aidan also encourages newer clinicians to pursue their goals and fosters a work environment that helps them realise their potential.
“People can explore whichever avenue of physiotherapy they'd like to. It's about helping clinicians achieve their potential…and we've got the opportunity to do that within Lifecare.”
