Celebrating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We are thrilled to share that APM was named Employer of Choice at the 2024 Blind Australian of the Year Awards.

Here at APM, we believe in creating a sense of belonging for all our employees, and we embrace the unique life experiences and perspectives that each person brings to their role. Recognition of our efforts to create diversity and inclusion was made possible by a nomination from Cal Hooley, the 2022 Blind Australian of the Year and now a Team Leader for APM Communities - an NDIS Partner in the Community helping people living with disability, their careers and their families, helping them to identify and access the supports they need to enjoy a better life.

Get to know Cal and his APM pathway

Before joining APM, Cal faced challenges finding employment, leading him to start his own business. However, the onset of COVID-19 necessitated a shift, and that’s when he found his place with us.

Cal shared, “The wording and structure of APM’s approach to hiring made me feel much more comfortable that my condition would be accepted.”

Initially employed as a Local Area Coordinator with the Community Capacity Building Team, Cal has thrived in his roles at APM.

“I benefited from our Emerging Leader Program, education allowances, workplace adjustments, and even an Uber account [to help me get around as required]. Cal shared. I’ve also been supported to pursue projects that hold meaning to me and had excellent training from my leaders,” he also shared.

APM’s commitment to belonging

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplaces have a positive impact on our team members right around the world, enhancing the quality of life for our clients, communities, and employees alike.

“Seeing how our projects shape communities is beyond special,” said Cal.

Empowering growth

We believe in enabling our people to grow both personally and professionally. Your voice will be heard, and you’ll be empowered to bring your true self to work.

More than four million Australians, or one in five people, experience disability, and despite this, many still face challenges and biases when seeking employment.

Cal is optimistic that by APM receiving the Employer of Choice Award, it will educate more employers and help them understand a social model of disability.

Join us at APM, where diversity is celebrated, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Explore our open roles HERE.
